Adventure Travel is the NEW thing.
It promises experiences out of the ordinary for the average tourist. Does it deliver? Most times it does, as long as you choose your own adventure.
There is a discussion as to whether Adventure Travel is dangerous and if it involves certain risks. The truth is that it might be, at least up to a certain degree, depending on various factors which are:
Your guide: Before finalizing your plans, you need to make sure that the team you have selected as your tour guide to your adventure is the best there is. And, by that, I mean the most experienced. When it comes to your safety, good looks and marketing are not enough.
Your physical condition: You cannot be involved in adventure holidays and expect something as placid as a “cooking seminar” or anything similar. It has to involve SOME physical action. The level depends on the activity you have chosen. So, evaluate your limits objectively and choose what suits you best, in ALL aspects.
Your willingness to go over and above: All these holiday activities seem so very tempting but not as physically taxing. On TV, there is no way you can evaluate the exact conditions; you do not actually feel the heat, you never get sea-sick, you are not afraid of heights and you will not get hurt. Reality, though, is quite different.
Your ability to follow instructions: Adventure Travel can be very safe as long as you follow the guidelines set by your tour guide(s). Rules have been set for your protection and this is not something you should test.
In summary:
It is paramount that you choose the RIGHT guide, even if you need to pay a bit extra. Quality always costs. But most importantly, an open mind is required so that you can experience both good and bad and see the whole trip as an adventure well lived. After all, the point is not just to have fun but also to gain a new experience, for if that is not a part of living a full life, what is?
